I can't seem to get crocheting down!

Is knitting easier?

how did you first learn them?

Cheers.

In my opinion, crocheting is much easier as you only have the one hook to deal with. I learned to do DC from my Home Ec teacher in 10th grade. I made a simple scarf. After I got married I found a very nice lady who gave private lessons and she helped me learn more stitches and how to read patterns. I also purchased some how to books to have as references as this was WAY before the internet and you-tube videos.

If you are able to find someone who can help you learn by watching then this is the way I would go. You will actually have someone right there who can answer your questions and correct your mistakes. Sometimes the local library has classes. Ask around. I would also purchase a how-to book so you can have it available.

I am still trying to learn to knit after SEVERAL yrs of trying. To me, it is HARD, but everybody is different. Some people think knitting is easier.

Please understand, I am not a geek , professional, highly polished, skilled competitive knitter or crocheter. I was taught very basic crochet by my Mom. Very basic knitting by my SIL. I learned the rest on my own.

I tend to have trouble with the guage in crocheting. I do not have this problem with knitting.

I made an afghan for my husband when married, without a pattern, and it came out lopsided. I was going to redo it, but he did not seem to want it redone. It was for his truck. The ease also depends on which stitches used and the difficulty of the pattern in both knitting and crocheting.

Be prepared for critics as in everything else. I enjoy making things for the grandkids and my daughter.

I knitted two cable sweaters, one for me and one for my daughter. They came out really well except for a little flaw in the neck where one side of the cable did not line up. That is all anyone saw.

I never knitted a sweater before. I should have redone them. I have the one I made, still, and love to wear it around the house. It is warm and comfy. I do crochet some, and enjoy it, not big projects.

Did not knit much this winter. My chest is bothering me, some things I can do, some I cannot for any length of time. Plan to next winter.

Doing either will give you pleasure.

(Keeping all of it, as I am everything else. No apologies, and not giving up music, books or anything else. Ill, not planning to die.)

Source(s): Oh look. I am doing what they accused me of in the past, which I did not do then, talking about myself.

I think knitting is easier, but I knit Continental. My guess is that Continental knitting is easier than the American version. I have also learned to crochet; I found that much more difficult than knitting.

In my opinion, crocheting is much easier. With either, it's really just about getting over that hump, once you get it, you get it.

    Good luck

i've got been knitting for greater or less 6 a million/2 years, and that i in simple terms all started crocheting final spring. i discover crocheting to be lots greater handy, and greater exciting. It took me a jointly as to learn (although i think of that has greater to do with the actuality that i'm no longer able to stick to instructions than something), yet once I have been given the dangle of it, it grew to become into truly undemanding. The hook is far less clumsy than the needles, and that's swifter to artwork with (to no longer point out that's lots much less stressful once you lose a hook and could replace it than once you lose a needle and finally end up with 3 of an identical length). Plus, there are greater crocheting varieties obtainable than knitting ones (that's been my journey, a minimum of, yet i assume it relies upon on what you're drawn to creating). i could initiate with crocheting, and if that doesn't waft your boat, you could constantly attempt knitting later.
