Birth control and liver disease?

My girlfriend had a liver transplant, which most doctors considet the equivalent of liver disease where medication is concerned.

Most birth control has a warning about if you have liver disease. Does anyone know of one that's safe for her to use?

If your girlfriend had a liver transplant...then she must of been

    informed about drugs.

Liver transplant patients are told: NO alcohol consumption.

Not to take "any" medications (over the counter meds, herbs,

vitamins, minerals, supplements, etc) that are not

approved by or prescribed by their doctors. This means

they should also have their other doctors (gyno, etc) check

with the transplant team before prescribing other drugs.

The reason for this, is that not all medical doctors know

which drugs to use for a transplant patient and if any

other drugs would interact with her drugs (like the

anti rejection drugs). They also need to be adjusted in

dosage depending on how far out from the transplant she is.

If her doctor prescribed her to take a birth control...then she

may call the Transplant doctor or gastroenterologist/hepatologist

she has now and check with them about the prescribed drug.

(this would of been done by her doctor, if he was informed

about it) They will then inform her to take the drug or ask the

    doctor for a different one.

All her doctors should work together in her care and see that

her needs for certain drugs are taken care of without risk to

    her. Best wishes
