Metal Fans: How good is this Death Metal Song?

Immolation - Lost Passion

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xxxp_YR5SPA

Not new song or anything, but was listening to Close to A World below yesterday and must have listened to this song 10 times...Love the dark doomy riffs at the beginning, nice changes of tempo, interesting drumming...well, basically everything

MQ: Thoughts on the song?

MQ2: Favourite Death Metal Song at the moment?

Update:

***Brian, thanks and I will for sure check it out!

Update 2:

***狼 Lord Frieza 雨: i agree with you on lyrics, not my favourite part of the song....and no, i enjoy in depth answers....also, I really dig that Therion album

Update 3:

**Thomas: now why would you make a ridiculous statement like that. It may not be your preference, but its definitely "real" music

I cant see the full question on my phone ... Get back to it in a second , Lost passion from close to a world below I assume?

** Are we sure that 狼 Lord Frieza 雨 is not Ben?

I love Lost Passion , it is definitely my favorite song off 'Close to A World Below'. It really does have everything a death metal song should have. Great riffage, power gutterals, thunderous drums, the sneaky tempo changes.

MQ2:hMM.... Right now, straight up death metal its Jungle Rot's 'I predict a riot' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRx0lovT4rw&feature...

    Give me a sec, kaayy?

First of all you do realize your MA is the same as the title question right?

Right. As I understand Immolation is an Anti-Religion band, is that true? The lyrics are mediocre and boring and even as an Atheist I never liked cliche Death metal lyrics.

But the music makes up for it lol. Highly percussive, good production. First off all you can't help but be drawn to the ominous riffs and spiffy melody. I am a huge fan of Melody, so I tend to have a lot of gripes with the First Wave Death metal bands from Stockholm. They DO have streaks of melody present like Dismember's debut but the songwriting is far from stunning.

I love the Thrash feel of the song, I think groovyness is a hugely important element in Death metal, thumpy busy bassline, varied and groovy drumming and skull crashing riffs are a huge part of it. While the riffs and drums are "interesting" as you put it, they don't really function as a single unit, complementing each other perfectly, but they DO have an amazing sense of groove.

The drum work is very tasty. The guitar is beautiful. Pay attention how the song ain't about fast shredding or scuzzy fast as lighting tremolo picking. The melody, the groove - that's what it's all about!!!

The vocals are deep, guttural powerful, heck even catchy. Tempo shifts keep it interesting, like you noted. I really love the way the did that. The drumming is sooo good (guitar too I just love drums). That song is crashing, spine snapping, all around amazing song-writing and performance wise.

Gosh, those riffs are cathcy, I would gladly listen to the drum track only, with the melody and catchiness, it's breathtaking. The solo is right up my style melodic (some Egyptian like hooks there lol) and the squeals after it are nothing short of beautiful man. It's extremely catchy and memorable don't blame for listening to it soo much.

    MA: 10/10.

    MA2: Therion - The Way.

I seriously good hooked on that part @ 7:50, orgasmic. That would change in an hour though, so many good ones. Right now, I'm into Symphonic Metal though.

*** BTW, tell me if my long posts are just too dang long, right? I didn't have time to shorten it :P

howdy tron. I keep in mind listening to this band some year returned. yet another band to function to the starting to be record of unfashionable death steel bands like Obliteration, Repugnant, Decrepitaph etc. there is no longer lots for me to assert different than what already hasn't been suggested above. good, stable, chunky riffs, a exciting horror-ish ecosystem at circumstances and lots and various catchy melodies. Cool stuff MA2: i improve into particularly basically listening to the 1st 2 Draconian albums repeatedly.

Good Morning (or After Noon) Owen! :D

well, to be honest I was expecting one of Dan Swano's 2,030 bands on this one, or something linked to Swano at the very least. ssurprise suprise =P

I have always liked Immolation very much they just are not one of my all time favorite Death Metal bands, however, I do enjoy listening to them from time to time. this particular song seems to have elements of both Death Metal and Doom Metal, at least in my opinion. However, I do like this song, it kind of moves pretty slow for Immolation but I do like it nonetheless. I would love to give you a longer answer but I am just busy as hell today buddy, but I always have time for my buddy Owen.

MQ: I do like this piece very much.

MQ2: Well, I don't think that is very hard to figure out lol.. Emaciate - Cryptopsy

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNbHbDcDI0g

this song has Total and complete Technical Death Power, great playing form Flo Mounier, Jon Levasseur, Eric Langlois and I have always liked the vocals of Mike D.

on a more lighter note, a song I have been completely been able to relate to and Absolutely love is.

    My Apocalypse - Arch Enemy

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dy1grsvEz4

of course, that would be more melodic death metal :)

    the lyrics are a masterpiece.

take care buddy and have a great day friend. :D

When since has death metal been good? It's just noise and angry growling. It's not real music.
