I was listening to some Gallhammer the other day and remember that their vocalist/bassist is married to Maniac from Mayhem....and after watching two live clips i realized they have the same corpse paint...maybe they discuss this while having dinner at home

The new Bound by Entrails album is probably my favourite of the year so far, and have been listening to this song quite abit the last month. I would describe it as a mix between modern Enslaved and Agalloch. This song is all clean vocals, but the album mixes the two styles very well

9 AnswersRock and Pop9 years agoMetal Fans: Thoughts on the new Sigh album?
althought not bad, I wasn't really looking forward to this release as i felt the last two releases were abit too "straightforward" for Sigh...and thats not what made them the unique band they were. However, i was pleased after hearing the first track that this sounds more like the 1997-2002 era of sigh with the more psychedelic/jazzy/black metal combination that i like

4 AnswersRock and Pop9 years agoHoly Moses: Most underrated Metal band?
I know some people familiar with them, but have always felt they should be recognized more as one of the more influential/groundbreaking bands out there. For one, I believe they were one of the first thrash bands formed (1980)...there first demo was also called "Black Metal Masters" which i think was the first time that Black Metal term was used (before Venom). And finally, with
Sabina Classen on vocals, the first harsh vocals from a female.
can't find all the early stuff on youtube, but here are a few

Its been at least two weeks since i mentioned Dan Swano, but I picked this EP up lately...surprisingly cheap considering it has been out of print for ages. I love the heavy tone of the guitars and Swanos voice is great as usual

well, maybe its not that interesting, but Dead of Mayhem makes an appearance in this Candlemass - Bewitched video (the guy at 4:50 i think)...never seen him without his corpse paint on, so that was different to see...and that he would go into a music video...not very Kvlt

I don't listen to alot of Doom in general, but there are two Funeral Doom bands i do enjoy listening to, and to me are much better than others i've heard (small sample though)...Ahab and Evoken. Both have that extremely heavy doom sound but still have enough melody to keep me interested

2 AnswersRock and Pop9 years agoMetal Fans: Favourite Dissection Song?
It used to be Nights Blood for the longest time, followed by The Somberlain or Where dead Angels lie but over the last year, I feel like I've been listening to slower paced stuff and maybe abit more progressive...and because of that, I've been appreciating Thorns of a Crimson Death alot more. There are some great riffs in the songs, nice leads for black metal, some tempo changes all the while keeping it in the dark dissection style

I'm abit late on this one, but only found out a couple days ago, but David Gold From Woods of Ypres was killed just before Christmas after getting hit by a car. I know Woods of Ypres aren't everyones style, but the guy was quite talented as he did vocals and guitar in Woods of Ypres and did some drumming in other bands. I also got to see them a while ago and he seemed like a really good guy:(

2 AnswersRock and Pop9 years agoMetal Fans: How about some redneck black metal?
ok, so a few days ago I posted my top 5 metal albums from 2011, and one of them was Taake - Noregs Vaapen. Definitely the least favourite of all who answered the question (which is fine...traditional black metal isn't everyones choice...however, on this album, Hoest (who plays all instruments in the band) employs the use of a Banjo in songs. First time i heard it, i was more than surprised as Taake general has a "raw" style of black metal...and Banjo seems like the opposite sound of everything that is black metal, but I really think it fits in this song

15 AnswersRock and Pop9 years agoMetal Fans: Darkest sounding band?
For me its got to be Necrophobic... maybe they aren't notorious outside of music as a band like Mayhem, Dissection or other bands like that, but whenever i listen to one of their albums, i get that dark/evil atmosphere in their songs...could be just me, but of all the bands i listen to, I can't think of a band that tops them
The Nocturnal Silence
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJFlCRJcC7M
The Awakening
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXhhKerW20Y
and i just picked up a more recent album Hrimthursum, which although is alot newer and better production than The Nocturnal Silence, that same dark sound is still ever present

Tribulation
I picked up the album The Horror recently and its definitely an interesting album with quite a few influences. The guitar tone is similar to that of old school death metal bands like Entombed/Dismember/etc....but the riffs are thrashy in style, but almost has some blackened aspects to it, similar to Necrophobic. Overall, these combinations seem to work in my opinion to create quite an enjoyable listen. Nothing overly new, but i feel its executed well..here are a few samples

4 AnswersRock and Pop9 years agoMetal Fans: Technical Black Metal Supremacy?
Black metal is never normally really associated with technical skill although there are definitely bands that are more than proficient. Some however seem to stand out abit more, and one of those bands imo is Abgott. I think at times when a BM band gets too "technical" they tend to sound more like death metal than Black metal, but I feel like Abgott still has that black metal "sound"

5 AnswersRock and Pop9 years agoMetal Fans: Enslaved vs Nocte Obducta?
Two progressive black metal bands(now), who i feel are two of the best these days. One obviously a lot more well known than the other, but doesn't take away from the style each plays. Nocte Obducta is a German band, who like Enslaved started out abit more aggressive and pure black metal, but have evolved to a more progressive style...Nocte Obducta with a more melancholy sound where as Enslaved is abit more aggresive imo
Here are a couple songs from each band
Nocte Obducta:
