Question about cataracts in the eye?

When you start getting up into your late 40's to early 50's is it fairly common to get cataracts? Both of my parents had them (and removed), and now my older brother just had one removed. He's in his late 40's, and I'm edging right up there too.

Just wondering if it's more of an old age type of thing, or if it's more hereditary?

    typically it is age related.

MANY/MOST people do end up developing cataracts in their life.

in some cases such as mine you develope them for other reasons not age related.

i'm 25 and i had cataract surgery in may of 2009 cuz after 2 retinal detachmends within 6 weeks of eachother in 2008 a cataract rapidly developed.

It's much more common in the late 60's and in the 70's than at the ages they got them.

Pretty well everyone will get them if they live long enough...
