Music while skiing, yes, no or doesn't matter?
I think that I ski better, smoother and more fluid while listening to my ipod. I have a playlist for steeps and another for tree glades. I'm probably imagining that it really helps but was wondering if I'm the only one who thinks music improves my technique.

My issue with wearing headphones in the trees is this: If you are by yourself, no biggie. If you are with a group and you are in the lead and someone behind you has a problem, you'll never know they hit a tree or something.
I usually don't listen to music when I ski because I have a fantastic memory and can playback my favorite tunes in my head to get my groove going.

Music while skiing is fun but it can cause huge problems if you have music while skiing it should be quiet and only in one ear because you then still have some spatial awareness if need be.
Music while skiing with an instructor or a group is a big no no because you will be unaware if there is a prolem behind you
So there isnt really an answer to your question its personal preference you just have to be sensible!

I've been skiing for six years, and I have to listen to music to get a rhythm going. I'll usually listen to classic rock or instrumental when I'm just gliding, and metal when I'm tricking or doing intense runs. I'm a lot better when I have music because I can focus in different shades, if that makes sense.

I can understand why you like to listen to music while skiing. It can put you in a good groove and it's possible that you do ski better with it. I just don't think it's safe to do it. I like to listen to the wind whistling by my ears. I prefer to be completely aware of everything around me and all my senses free of distractions. I think skiing is fun enough that I don't need music, or I can listen to it after skiing.

Music while skiing is just like music, texting, telephoning while driving. You can kill or be killed.
