Because Al Gore knows what happens when Warmists debate with skeptics --- the Warmist LOSE and they LOSE BIG !! Al Gore has no desire to be publicly humiliated and made to look like a clown and that is precisely what would happen.
Below is linked a video of a debate between Lord Monckton and Dr. Richard Dennis, executive director of the Australian Institute and Former Greens adviser.
This debate was conducted at the National Press Club in Australia and most of the audience was made-up of reporters from various news agencies --- they despised Monckton and even wrote stories trying to prevent Monckton from being able to appear.
But Moncton utterly destroys Dr. Dennis, in fact at the end of the debate the tally showed that Moncton had won by a ratio of ten to one.
It's about an hour long, if you don't have time to watch it all I suggest you start the video about 14 minutes in. This is where Moncton really gets on a roll and it is quite fun to watch. But maybe not so much if you are a Warmist.

Monckton focuses on particular aspects of the science to win debates. When he debates scientists he focuses on aspects that aren't the speciality. Being scientists they are usually unwilling to discuss these aspects (as they leave that up to the experts). If he was honest he won't debate the speciality of the scientist with them ... but avoids this at all cost.
In Australia he should debate Dr Karl. Dr Karl is a public scientists willing to debate and argue matters that fall outside the realm of his speciality. He is a well read person. Also to argue someone like Monckton (who is a good public speaker) you need to get a scientists with a personality (who is also a good public speaker) - Dr Karl would give him a good run for his money!

Ah Lord Mockingtone, you really want to go there, Mockingtone is the one who has ignored or made excuses as to why he won't debate scientists, to date he has agreed to one he choose blogger and computer scientist Tim Lambert he also choose the ground and the moderator, well known Australian radio personality Allan Jones, a strong supporter of Mockingtones and a peddler of denier fiction (so impartial then !). The audience were mostly pensioners (Jones main audience) who were quite clearly reading prepared questions, that they obviously didn't understand. While Lambert is not a match for Mockingtone as a speaker he stuck doggedly to the facts and while the hand picked audience were never going to be convinced (especially with Jones as the moderator) Lambert actually won on evidence presented and on several points showed Mockingtone for what he really is an empty showman.
A little while after this there was supposedly another debate, at oxford (if I recall correctly) watts made much of this and promised he would have more, as Mockingtone of course claimed he had won, yet to date nothing in the way of detail on this debate has seen the light of day, If Mockingtone really had won this debate I'm sure he would be shouting it from the roof tops, his silence speaks volumes and Mockingtone silent, is I'm sure, a rarity.
You show just one vid of Mockingtone from YouTube, there are many others where he makes a complete fool of himself like this one

This amongst other references to nazis has made him a object of ridicule, to the extent that even many deniers are backing away from some of his increasing absurd statements, he was not even invited to speak at the most recent Heartland climate conference.

You seriously think Gore should debate this guy ...
" For those of you unfamiliar with Monckton’s CV, he’s an outspoken climate-change skeptic who once worked for prime minister Margaret Thatcher and he has a history of controversial and polarizing statements. Like the time he said the Hitler Youth was a liberal Green organization. Or the time he suggested that all AIDS victims should be quarantined."
I am not sure this guy could win a debate about which side of the road to drive on in his own country!

Won't has an apostrophe
Faux News has a problem with honest reporting
Monckton cannot debate because his talking end is too far and too permanently extended into his opposite end

I think it would be interesting. Although I do think Lord Monckton is a bit of a charlatan, so is Al Gore. Neither are scientists but they are both outspoken on "Global Warming".
As for the reason Al Gore would not debate him; it would expose the lies of global warming to a wider audience than what skeptics normally get. Most alarmists know this as well and don't want Gore to debate anyone who opposes the doctrine.

Yeah, he won't debate Krusty the Clown either.
EDIT: I might also add that Gore lost a debate to George Bush, which at least contributed to Bush being elected. Bush's presidency ended with two wars that have cost over a trillion dollars and killed hundreds of thousands of people and a global economic catastrophe.
Unfortunately public debates are almost always worthless. In some cases the results are catastrophic.

Gore won't debate *anyone*.
He particularly will not debate Monckton; Gore knows CM 'has his number'...Monckton published a detailed analysis of 35 factual errors in Gore's movie...nine of them were identified by a UK judge, such that there the movie can no longer be shown to schoolchildren without also being accompanied by a text detailing the 9 factual errors...the judge declared otherwise the movie would run afoul of their laws prohibiting using the schools to propagandize the children.

When Gore testified before congress, the Republicans invited Monckton to testify at the same meeting...the warmists couldn't even handle that...the Democrats had to nix Monckton's appearance before the committee, or Gore would have refused to show up.
Gore knows he'd be on the defensive from the first sentence to the last.
