Were there things you wanted to do before you got married, but did not?

What were those things? And finally, what is preventing you from doing them now that you're married?

I didn't think so at the time. One of those things you overlook when you are getting married at a young age.

I missed out on college. Couldn't have afforded it at the time anyways...went to business school instead hoping to get out and get a job with tuition reimbursement. Things just didn't happen that way. I got the job, got married, got the house and then had a baby all within 4 years. I haven't pursued my education due to my husband being out of work (injury) then paying for his hospitalization (alcoholism) and keeping the house afloat while raising our daughter. What sucks now, is that HR people only look at resumes with college degrees so my last 16 years of work experience are apparently crap...and I still can't afford college.

All that said, I'm an Executive Administrative Assistant for a CFO at a hospital...earning good pay and have good benefits so I guess I could be worse off...

There were things I should have done before I got married, because now living in the real world, you dont get to be selfish, take off on a whim, quit your job to do something crazy etc. I dont for a second regret getting married, or having my child. I just see that while I was young and free I could have done a lot more things than I did lol. When I got married that was what I wanted, nothing else would have even come close, the same with my son. Travel and wild hairs have to be pushed back for the sake of my family. I have to work and be responsible. I love it. I didnt give up things I want to do, I just changed my time table and in what order I am going to do them. Its all perspective. Life happens and you either resist and whine about it, or you rearrange things so it all fits.

I wanted to get my Master's Degree. I started it, but have not finished it as we started moving (5 states, 8 cities/towns) and then kids, work, life, etc. Now, 24 years after marriage I'm not sure I want it. I am doing very well in my career and am almost in a place where if I wanted to I could finish my degree and now I'm not sure I want to.

Travel...do things without thinking of the consequences...I would love to do that now. But with a child and bills to think of, it's probably just dreams now.

  • I wanted to get my Master's degree. Now, I'm a widow with an 11 year-old, and am worrying about her post-secondary education.

I wanted to travel. But now that I am divorced, with an adult child, and free, I am travelling on my holidays when I can.
