Why heart is the seat of love?

Surely the love of this context is ‘amorous love'. Amour is a characteristic of gender dichotomy/ gender relationship and is extensible to sex. So the type of sex this context is concerned with is social sex or non-reproductive sex. The other type of sex is conjugal sex or reproductive sex. We are called upon to dissect heart to look for seat of amorous love, if it is there.

Let us have a look at the other contenders for ownership of the seat of love - other than heart? The other two major contenders are brain and gonad (reproductive organ). How?

Brain is the venue for active thinking. The latter is a process that joins perceptional information and lesser concepts with the help of a neuro-tool called reasoned logic to form greater postulates. These turn into personal truths if not contested by contradictory newer perceptions and concepts.

What happens next is something which is very noteworthy. Personal truths turn into respective genes in course of time. At this turning point, active floating thoughts (neural entities) get rooted as sedimentary thoughts (genetic entities). Instinct is another name for a sedimentary thought.

This is the way in which body gets continually enhanced. The other name of this continual enhancement of body is evolution. Thus brain effects evolution through the aforesaid neural-genetic medium or psycho-corporal process.

So, what has amorous love to do with this psycho-corporeal/ nero-genetic process?

Amorous love is the medium for receiving large volumes of most preferred perceptions. These fond perceptions have the potentiality to be the constituents of prospective high postulates. Large-scale neural activity is felt as emotions. Thus amorous love is characterized with profuse emotions. As a consequence, a large number of personal truths emerge and these in turn fertilize the genes, causing the stock of instinct and the process of physical evolution to surge forward.

Thus amorous love heavily potentiates the neural-genetic/ psycho-corporeal evolutionary process. Brain takes the lead in these affairs as usual. Magnitude of potential amorous evolution is astounding. Because, the size of amorous perception is too large. A lover perceives the other lover’s plexus (network of nerves etc) and genetics across a very broad interface during amorous contacts. The intensity and depth of such wide perceptions overwhelms the individual right to his/ her core. This feeling is fondly said to be a hearty feeling. Thus comes into use the metaphor and mascot – ‘heart’.

The weight of the metaphor ‘heart’ notwithstanding, brain’s claim to supremacy can’t be denied right away.

Let’s see what gonad has to say in this matter. The coexistence, association and symbiosis between amour and sex as well as amalgamation of amorous and sexual organs becomes the first physical evidence of the lurking import of gonad. This attracts us to its real role in the story of evolution.

As the brain-initiated neural-genetic (psycho-corporeal) process effects a quantum of body evolution, preservation of a copy of the latest body status becomes nature’s next great task. Thus it is expected that the latest gamete (reproductive haploid cell) be in the image of the latest body so that genetic legacy is completely transferred to offspring.

Feeling an orgasm at the time of gamete transfer is rather a subjective proof of the importance of gonad’s such an evolutionary role.

Darwinians seem to be oblivious of gonad’s such import.

If brain is to be accredited with invention of a micro-evolution, gonad is its preserver. Naturally, if brain - by way of its subscription to neural-genetic (psycho-corporeal) nature of amorous love and social sex - claims to be the seat of love, gonad shouldn’t lag far behind in claiming to be the same by virtue of its capability to immortalize in successive progenies this neural-genetic consequence.

This argument also establishes equality of brain and gonad – making them complementary hemispheres of the evolution-globe.

We may metaphorically ascribe the seat of love to heart, but the two arms of this secular throne are brain and gonad.

If the metaphor ‘heart’ is taken as a virtual reality to connote the emotive aspects of amour and sex, we can propose here the brain-heart-gonad trinity to represent the whole affair.
