I worked in a retail business for about 11 years and we always kept a can of Lysol spray disinfectant at the registers. Employees would spray the keyboard and mouse when they felt the need, some more than others..,(personal preferences). As long as we didn't drench them, a normal spray with this was sufficient and it evaporates quickly. Over the 11 years I worked there there were no ill-effects on the keyboards or mice because of this action.

I am a health professional. A usefull trick is to get a sheet of soft tranparent plastic. Cover the keyboard (use sellotape to secure it underneath). Then periodically replace the plastic or wipe the plastic with an antibacterial wipe. There is no sanitizer/cleaning fluid which will not leave a residue & eventually clog up your keyboard.

Well, to be honest, your keyboard is likely the dirtiest thing in your house. No, really! Look it up.
You wanna get a soft damp cloth and some computer-friendly polish. Flu bacteria can't spread from touching something a sick person's touched.
