Relocating to a new city for your career, How lonely were you?

If you relocated to an unfamiliar city for your career, how lonely were you and for about how long? I fear that since I won't know anybody, I'll spend lots of lonely nights alone outside of work. I meet people through close friends introducing me to them, and I won't have "wing-buddies" to help me out.

Can a person basically start their life over, gain a circle of friends, get a boy/girl friend, and possibly start a family if they move to a new location?

Yes. It's done all the time. You will need to get out and meet people at the new location. Join a gym, go to coffee places, go to church if you are inclined. It takes time to rebuild a social circle, but you can do it if YOU put out the effort. If you wait for people to initiate contact you will have lonely nights.

I moved to LA knowing no one. Took me about 6 months to develop a network.
