What sort of training and qualifications do you need to become a performer?

So, I need to do a report on becoming a performer and how to get into the career. What experience would you need? What sort of courses are available. What should I look for? Also, some college and universities in England that have good courses?

If you can answer ANY of these questions I will be eternally grateful! Thanks! :)

Update:

A cellist preferably but a singer if that's easier. :)

    What type of performer...it's different for dancers than singers and actors...
