Starting a Book Club, for the first time...?
I'm starting a book club at my college for anyone and everyone (students) for the very first time. Have you got any tips for me and important information? I am very nervous as I am one of the youngest there-so many people older than me and there are many people who I do not want to join (but obviously I cannot prevent that).
How should I overcome fears and be confident- my confidence is improving and I need to boost it up a lot more and I am hoping this will help.
Also, I am advertising posters advertising this for students to sign up [in the office] - how can I make an effective poster?
Thank you very much for your time and help

Usually you discuss books you have read or are about to read. You could bring maybe just a little packet of sweets to share out whilst people take it in turns to tell everyone what they think of a book (this might encourage people to take part), etc. Or maybe you could hold a competition on who can give the best, most well-rounded review on a certain book, or perhaps hold a writing competition if any of the members are interested.
For top books to discuss, try choosing from the current bestsellers list. Ask the group to discuss why and why they don't think it should be in the bestsellers category, ask for their opinions.
Definitely discuss the books. Maybe you could set up a website for your book club stating rules and activities. Be imaginative :) This website is free and extremely useful - wix.com - for creating your own website. Try advertising it on your college homepage if you have one, perhaps?
For a poster, include a few well-known books that you think students will be willing to discuss. Try using a catchy slogan about reading. Make sure you include compulsory information about where and when the club will take place.
I wish you the best of luck!
