Why do people renew their wedding vows?

Marriage isn't like a car licence that needs to be renewed before it expires. If a couple needs to prove how much they love each other then why not show it each and every day instead. Isn't one marriage sufficient (and expensive enough?)

    I think it's stupid, personally.

They don't expire. More people than you think actually don't renew vows because they know this. The only time I have ever heard of or seen this done in real life was a couple who married young as athiests and converted to Christianity later in life and wanted a religious ceremony. It didn't make any sense but it was their choice to make.

Even if something goes wrong during the "first" wedding, there is no rewind button. Just like there is no rewind button for life in general. Weddings are no exception.

  • That's true, but there are loads of things that can go wrong during a wedding so some people try to right those wrongs by having a second wedding. Or if the couple have had problems during their marriage then they might renew their vows to help cement their relationship. But I agree, they should show it every day anyway.
