You have a couple options:
Brand New Mossberg 500 for about $300-350

This is a very solid shotgun for the money. Best Choice if you can afford it.
Brand New Single Shot shotgun...H&R, NEF, or Rossi for about $120-160
Solid, reliable, but kick extra extra hard because it is so light. BAD choice
Used shotgun. Used Mossberg 500 for $200-250 or so. Good value if you can find it
Used shotgun, pump, catalog brand from the 70's and 80s like Sears Ted Williams, JC Penny's JC Higgins, Glenfield, Coast to Coast Hardware Shotguns, Montgomery Wards, etc etc
These 'big name' stores payed companies like Savage, Marlin, Remington, Mossberg, to make them guns to sell in their catalogs back when you could have a shotgun mailed to you.

You can usually buy guns that are a bit rough on the outside but good on the inside for $150-200. You generally find these at gun stores...not sporting goods shops that also sell guns.
OR...bolt action shotguns.
Believe it or not, there was a time when pump shotguns were too expensive for even regular middle class sportsmen, but these guys wanted something better than a single shot. Bolt action shotguns were priced between pumps and single shots, and actually sold quite well.
Today they are very out of favor. This means in actual gun stores (again, gun store not sporting goods store that also sells guns) off in some distant dusty corner they will have some old used bolt action shotguns that some guy traded in on a new pumpgun 10 years ago. They will be priced to sell at about $100 but if you offer $50 you can bargin them down to $75. Just make sure if there is a detachable magazine, that it is included. A lot of magazines for these guns have gotten lost.
These are really very solid guns, and for $75 they represent the very best 'bang for your buck' out there. A 3 shot 20 gauge with a dull stock, scratched up in places, and with a barrel spotted by rust is STILL a better shotgun than a brand new $130 Rossi Single Shot.
Plus you can beat the heck out of it and not worry

some good solutions here already; Remington 870 or Mossberg 500. enable me to remark on the heavy draw back you experienced.... it may be one among 2 issues...or a mix of the two... First, you could carry the shotgun firmly against your taking photos shoulder. in case you do no longer carry it against your shoulder, it has the prospect to holiday a a million/2-inch and then belt you. think of of it this form, if we had a bar room guess and you have been going to permit me to punch you interior the shoulder, the place might you choose me to start my fist? might you desire me to place my fist a foot way out of your shoulder...or nicely suited up against it and then attempt to punch? Yep! you will possibly choose my fist nicely suited on your shoulder so as that i could no longer produce any potential with my strike...then it would purely be a push somewhat of a punch. yet another ingredient is, you could carry on tight with the two palms. think of roughly retaining the forearm (pump) with one hand and the pistolgrip section with the different. do no longer overdo it...yet ascertain you carry firmly so as that the gun would not "boss you around". 2nd, it could have been the form of ammunition you have been taking photos. If somebody grew to become into imparting you with 3 inch magnum shells to shoot by that gun, then it would punish you. The shorter, 2 3/4 inch magnums punish slightly much less. Then the extreme brass sport plenty even much less. Then the low brass a million a million/8 ounce objective plenty much less. ultimately, the lightest shells are the cheap promo plenty that basically %. an oz.. of shot in a 12 gauge shell and are made mostly for casual objective taking photos and perhaps searching chipmunks. combine this suggestion of taking photos decrease powered (extra value-effective) shells and retaining the gun tight with the two palms and firmly against your shoulder...and you will haven't any subject firing one hundred rounds of 12 gauge shells with the comparable volume of discomfort you felt after firing basically 5 rounds till now. Oh yeah and one extra ingredient. Felt draw back is a effect of ways heavy or gentle a shotgun is in terms of weight. Lighter weapons kick extra by using fact they only circulate the potential returned to the shooter. A heavier gun could have much less felt draw back. think of a 12 gauge shotgun barrel on a cannon mount. it won't head the wheels. So, I want the Remington 870 by using fact it makes use of a heavier metallic receiver that has a tendency to hose down the felt draw back. (Mossbergs use a mild-weight aluminum receiver.)
