Slow muscle recovery after workout?

Hello.. I'm 21 years old. I like to work out with heavy weights, in order to gain muscle mass. I've noticed that my overall muscle recovery time is much slower than most people. When I go to the gym with friends, in 2 days they're ready to hit the same muscle areas again, while it takes me 3+ days to recover.

Just recently I worked out after a long time of no exercise, and this is my 4th day and finally the muscles feel less sore, but it's still not completely gone.

I think I'm an ectomorph (I have a hard time putting on muscle mass) - does that have to do with muscle recovery? I try to eat well, 4-5 times a day, as well as use protein shakes with creatine. I do notice improvements in my overall strength, but because of the slow muscle recovery I can only lift weights 2 times a week =(

    1. I would recommend that you use some sort of active recovery plan as a trial.

If you do a legs workout then follow it with 15 - 20 minutes of walking or exercise bike work.

Then the next day do another stint on the bike, this helps the blood flow through the muscles and aids the recovery.

I generally find that between rowing for upper body and walking/cycling for lower body I get a quicker recovery time just doing a short stint of slow exercise - not too hard or you'll feel even more sore... I'd say slow - slow medium.

    2. Food and Diet - make sure you're not dehydrated - drink plenty of water..The shakes you are having is a good idea!!

    3. Make sure you get enough sleep, there is no point working out hard and not getting enough sleep to let your body repair.

give these a try.. They work for me

Yeah if you have a skinnier body type its harder to put on mass, take it from me

i have seen many bodybuilders who were skinny in their young ages but now they are like 50 years and huge, but they always say it was hard for them but they had to push and work extra hard to get good results

as for you, you have potential to becoming really big and strong dont worry

as long as your pushing yourself hard to the limit, eating well, and SLEEP well!

Also Creatine is good too but remember to lay off creatine for a while! i lay off creatine for 1 month!

then go back to my cycle

I recommend Glutamine for you! look it up! its amazing and helps recover muscles really fast after your workout! whenever i feel sore my muscles feel normal in 1 day! its awesome

trust me it worked for me

and keep on the powder that helps too

    goodluck mate

    cheers :)

If you ever consider to hold a diet plan you always find that several diets recommend that you totally steer clear of specified meals groups such as carbohydrates and at end all the lbs that you lost (if you get to get rid of them) are coming back.

take an aspirin after the workout and get into the cold water. Epsom salt baths saved my life as well

2 times per week is fine.

The only body parts you could do 3-4x per week are biceps, abs and obliques (stupid), calves, and maybe triceps.

usually if you hit your max when working out its sore for a few days. maybe your friends lift less than they can and you're maxing out? this happens to me sometimes, if i do a butt-load of situps it will hurt for a few days.
