To me, being "childish" isn't good ... being "childlike" is. But you really have decide that for yourself based on your own personal values and moral code.

No one says someone has "childish enthusiasm", they say "childlike enthusiasm". People do say someone is "acting childish".
Childish is always used pejoratively.

It depends on the context.
Letting your hair down and playing on the kids swing is harmless fun.
Expecting parents to carry you when you are no longer a child is not good.
