Assuming that the advertised mileage estimates were correct, how many miles were driven in the city?

25 mi/gal in the city
40 mi/gal on the highway
let: x miles be driven in the city,
then
driven on the highway will be 2300-x
x/25 + (2300-x)/40 = 62
8x/200 + 5(2300-x) /200 =62
(8x+11500-5x)/200 = 62
3x = 12400 - 11500 = 900
x = 300 miles
