Will time travel ever become a reality?

Do you think that anyone will ever invent and make a time machine?

If you had the ability to travel back in time, would you be prepared to make a huge self sacrifice which would benefit humanity and the course of history.

I have in mind for example, going back to when some tyrant was a child and murdering that kid - even though the consequence would be disasterous to yourself.

Examples are: Adolf Hitler, Augusto Pinochet, Sadam Husein and Tony Abbott.

I thought scientists are discovering more about time/space to show it might be possible.

I'd like to go back and meet some of the greats of the past and tell them about modern life, eg tell Mozart that his music will still around after 300 years and people can now listen to it anywhere not just in concert halls, tell Jane Austen about modern women having property rights and careers, or tell Governor Macquarie that he has been rehabilitated and is now a hero, or tell Captain Cook about sat nav and air travel. Would they believe it, but?

It will never happen, seriously dude how many scientists do you think are out there tinkering with time travel, probably none, imagine trying to get funding for that they would laugh at you, and you will need billions of dollars to make any serious attempt, lets face it there is absolutley zero chance of some guy building a time machine in his garden shed or basement out of car, helicopter or rocket parts, the chance of somebody even getting funding to build something even remotely realistic like a manned mission to a nearby star is even impossible you just cant ask for $100 billion to do something that has maybe less than 5-10% chance of having a successful result, the movies use stuff like big explosions, wormholes and particle accelerators that whoops! accidentally create time travel as a 'side effect' or you could just take the easy option and wait for some aliens who have already invented time travel to conveniently crash and we could just jump in and press the start button, good luck to you in the future (or the past)!

Maybe....but not in the near future.

If I could travel back in time, I would try to prevent bad things (eg. 9/11) from happening and tell my past self to do things differently in high school (I hated my high school years and regret some of the choices I made during that time).

If someone is ever going to create a machine that can travel back in time, why haven't they come and told us about it?
