Why did Norman Gunstan never enter politics?

Back in the 1980's I use to watch Norman Gunstan's documentaries and greatly enjoyed his refreshing honesty and reflection upon all aspects of Australian life.

I think that if he had ever entered the political arena he would have made a good politician.

It's a shame that he was not there to contest John Howard.

    Probably because Norman Gunston was a fictional character played by actor Garry McDonald.

    Norman Gunston the character played by Gary Macdonald did not write his own material.. comedy writer Bill Harding wrote it for him
