When buying a new laptop which pentium, ghz, gb and all that jazz should i get?

I will be using my laptop for email, itunes, online college courses, research, freelance writing/blogging, and online shopping. I have no idea what to look for when deciding on which laptop to buy. I don't want something that's gonna run extremely slow after downloading a few things but I also don't wanna pay for much more than what I need. Please help. Also, any pointers for keeping my laptop in brand new condition would be much appreciated.

thats pretty basic uses, so any processor will work, i would recommend an amd c-50, it is a weaker processor but it is built for long battery life and for low heat stress. even after hours of uses it barely feels warm to the touch, so you dont need a cooling fan which not only saves you money but also less to carry round when you travel, i have one, i use it for college(environmental science major). i am going to recommend this one, it comes with a free one year accidental protection plan with it.so whether you spill drink on it or run your car over it, it will be fixed or replaced once for free in the first year.

I say a 2.0 Ghz CPU with 2 GB RAM is the absolute minimum. Generally, the more RAM you have the smoothier things will run.

To keep your laptop in brand new condition, be aware of what softwares you put into your computer.
