The Descendants. It's my second favorite film of 2011 (I'm extremely close to putting it a #1), while Moneyball it sitting tight at #3.
The Descendants just did more for me. George Clooney's performance is one of the best I've ever seen, he's so human, yet so larger than life at the same time. It's hard to explain. The screenplay and supporting cast are flawless, the landscape is beautiful, and it's so original (although it was based on a novel).
Moneyball is a brilliant film as well, largely due to its absolutely perfect screenplay. Everybody turned in a memorable performance, especially Pitt and Hill, who completely tore up the screen.
I was debating for a while which film had the better script, but I had to lean towards The Descendants in the end. It's truly the best film of the year, in my opinion.
BQ:
1. 50/50
2. The Descendants
3. Moneyball
4. Drive
5. Midnight in Paris
6. Win Win
7. Crazy, Stupid, Love
8. Hugo
9. Shame
10. The Artist
I need to to re-watch 50/50, Drive, Midnight in Paris, Crazy Stupid Love, and Hugo to see if they can keep their spots, though.
BQ2: I'm watching The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo now, I still need to see Take Shelter, The Tree of Life (I feel like it'll be a chore to watch, which is why I'm avoiding it), The Muppets, A Dangerous Method, A Separation, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, and a whole sh*t ton of indie and foreign flicks.
BQ3: Clooney. Brad Pitt may have the better catalog, but Clooney just brings this certain charm and energy to the screen that completely sets him apart.
BQ4: Shame, probably. The last ten minutes are stunning. War Horse was cool, too. It definitely had the emotional pay off.
BQ5: You ask this a lot Donson.
1. Moonrise Kingdom
2. Django Unchained
3. The Silver Linings Playbook
4. The Place Beyond The Pines
5. Twylight Zones
