Should I do my school project on film Noir or broaden it to Golden age cinema?
We're required to do a senior, end of the year project at my school, and I'm thinking of doing a project on movies. However it needs to be more specific than that so I'm wondering if I should film a movie based on golden age cinema, film noir, or both.

hey DP! :)
Ok.. well in answer to your Q, Golden age would include 30's and 40's which would take in a lot of classic noir. There's a lot of scope there,so it'd be a very good and interesting subject base to go on. It's my personal favourite era and genre of cinema.
Some of the movies from that genre/era would be-
Detour
Crossfire
The Glass Key
Key Largo
Out of The Past...
There's so many more... I'd recommend this era but I'm being biased maybe! Either way, if you do golden age,it's got to include the noir stuff anyway.. :)

A lot of film noir occurred during the Golden Age of Cinema, so they're both related subjects. I would use both. You can use example of film noir like Double Indemnity, The Third Man etc. You could use film noir and relate it more modern movies like Body Heat and Pulp Fiction.

personally I think it's a good idea to choose a narrow topic, because research topics have a way of expanding once you start learning about the subject. For that reason I think it would be better to just do film noir (placing it within the context of the golden age, of course- you'd definitely want to mention that).
