I accidentally got whole coffee beans at the grocery store today when I meant to buy ground coffee?
Is it possible to grind them myself at home, without a real grinder, instead of running back to the store? This may be a dumb question, but I was just curious if it is possible.
I would return it, but I already opened the bag. That's how I realized they were whole beans =(

If you have a blender, you could use it to grind the beans. Use it on the highest speed setting and grind to the approximate poweder size you are used to using.

You could use some kind of general electric blender but it will generate heat and that affects the flavour. The best kind of coffee grinder is a burr grinder rather than the blade type, and you can get electric ones or hand ones (my preference). Some stories grind the coffee once you have bought the beans so maybe you can go back and get that done. Otherwise if you have a large pestle and mortar that will do the job - its how it was originally done after all - but it is time-consuming.
If all else fails put the coffee in the freezer and wait until you can borrow a proper grinder.

If you have a working coffee grinder you can grind them.
You get far better tasting coffee, than pre ground coffee.
Buy you an electric coffee grinder when you get a chance. They are not real expensive.
A coffee grinder just has a high speed sharp knife that looks like a fan blade.
I'm not sure, a blender may chop them up. But I've never tried it.
Good Luck !

If you don't have a real grinder then your coffee's turnout will not be great. You will be wasting the coffee and won't get the desired taste. One cup will be strong or light in flavor. I suggest, you run down to the store and return it. Then buy the ground coffee and brew the correct flavor and have fun.

You can do it in a blender, ( 'pulse' on 'high'), but it would be a lot of trouble
getting the size of grind you're looking for.

yes, you can take a knife and split the beans into very fine slices, and than try to mash them with a spoon.
