Not sure why I have upper back pain and how to make it go away?
For the last couple of days I have pain in my upper back. It is hard to describe because it is like it feels weird more than it hurts, although it hurts too. The place that bothers me the most is the base of the neck it think, like where my neck ends and the back begins (I don't know anything about anatomy). I feel like my spine is poking out there. It hurts the most to sit up against the couch, which is soft! Nothing else hurts, just my back. I had stayed up all night working on homework, hunched over a bit, could that have caused it? I can't think of anything else. I am a major sloucher anyway, but with this I feel like I need to sit up straight, but then when I do it doesn't help. Ibuprofen didn't help much, and the heat bad was hard to position just right and it helped only slightly. I'm being a big baby about it, but I just can't get comfortable and I'm too young for this!!! Any suggestions?

Your back muscles would be tight in that area to cause that discomfort. To get rid of the problem you have to free up your back muscles to release the tight muscles causing the discomfort and here's how to free them up:
Back:
(do while sitting)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

My shoulder was super sore a couple of days ago, and I took Aleve. It has been doing a great job. I usually take aspirin or Tylenol for sore muscles, but this time it was hurting so bad so I thought I'd try Aleve. I start with 2 Aleve, but then I take just one every 8 or 12 hours. I also apply heat to my sore shoulder when I go to bed and throughout the day. Sometimes, I use a muscle rub like Ben Gay to apply heat during my workouts; other times I use a heating pad. It helps quite a bit. I get my sore muscles from lifting weights. Good luck. Go for the Aleve.

Hunching over will do it - get into a hot shower, bend over gently and try and touch your nose to your knees. It's fine if you don't make it all the way, you just want to stretch your back. When you get out, put an ice pack on the part of your back that hurt, and take an over the counter NSAIDs if you can, such as Motrin. If you can get someone to help you put some BenGay on it, that'll help a lot, too.
