Which parts of the Old Testament are we supposed to live by and which ones are we supposed to ignore?

You see quotes from the old testament as being the laws of God which we are supposed to live by. Also there are things that God did in the old testament that are very questionable. But where in the bible did it become ok to eat shellfish and pork? Where did the bible say we are aloud to wear clothing of mixed fabrics? When did it become ok to play with the skin of a pig (football)? Why are some of God's laws ok to change and others are not?

That's a truth given from one of the best chapters in the Bible to live by, Romans 14. In Romans 14 you have a principal being communicated; if you think it is a sin (your conscience determines that), then it is. But if you don't think it's a sin, then for you it's not. Paul gives examples of eating and drinking, Holy Days, and other disputable issues.

His warning is that you in your liberty should not judge someone who is weak and cannot (they fear God's judgment), and they should not judge you because you can. And look at all the Christians who think it's their job to ferret out anyone doing something they can't do because they think it's sin! Sometimes they even say that you cannot be a Christian and do it (whatever it is).

This is why I think it's one of the most overlooked parts of the Bible. We aren't supposed to be under the same covenant of the Law of Moses. So we have liberty, and it is well defined in Romans 14.

    Such as:

    Romans 14

13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister. 14 I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean.

Don't let them take away your liberty in Christ. They are only proving that they are in bondage to a covenant they aren't even supposed to belong to!!!

the ones where god says i hate it, it is a abomination to me

we are to not do those things

the ones where he told israel to you its a abomination or to you do not do it means it only applied to israel

But where in the bible did it become ok to eat shellfish and pork?

inn the new testament where jesus says its not what goes in that corrupts a man but what comes out of him that corrupts

1 timothy 4:3-5 allows the eating of all food

Where did the bible say we are aloud to wear clothing of mixed fabrics?

that law only applied to israel

When did it become ok to play with the skin of a pig (football)?

gentiles have no problem since there was no restriction with pigs

    only israel had that restriction

Why are some of God's laws ok to change and others are not?

because god says they are okay to change

The old testomony is earlier Jesus replaced into born, and the hot testomony replaced into for the time of Jesus's existence and after he died. And the main significant issues in the bible are the genuine ones, over the years, some issues have replaced on account that earlier they had paper, the memories have been instructed by way of mouth, and that they have got been slightly altered. although the flaws that are maximum serious in the Bible are those that are genuine, whether somebody has replaced it over the years.

Jesus condensed all the law of Moses into two smaller, more easily managed laws. Keep these two , and you keep the whole law:

Mat 22:36 Master, which [is] the great commandment in the law?

Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Mat 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.

Mat 22:39 And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Mat 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

You live by the laws of morality, i.e. how to treat others and animals and to love God. You ignore the cultural ones that set the Hebrews apart to form their identify, i.e. the shellfish.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Timothy 3:16

    none we're supposed to ignore

Judicial Laws no longer apply (They change with the times)

Moral Laws always apply. They concern sexual conduct and other actions. Christ himself even quoted the commandments.

Civil Laws No longer apply.(All the traditions animal sacrifice, who and who couldn't approach the altar etc.)

Source(s): Read the book of Hebrews.
