well the Quadratic formula is
x = [ - b ± √(b² - 4ac)] / 2a
a = 1
b = 10
c = 23
so x = [-10 ± √(10² - 4(1)(23))] / 2(1)
Solve
x = [-10 ± √(100 - 92)] / 2
x = [-10 ± √(8)] / 2
x = [-10 ± 2√2 ] / 2
x = [ -10 + 2√2] 2
x = -5 + √2
or
x = [ -10 - 2√2] / 2
x = -5 - √2
x = -5 + √2
x = -5 - √2
