NO cold sores are not considered to be an std, they can be passed with out having sex. Cold sores are more likely to be passed on when there are any signs of a cold sore or fever blister.

They are more likely to be passed by kissing or being kissed by some one that has a visible cold sore on their mouth. There is only a small chance of passing cold sores through sharing cups or utensils.
