square both sides as follow :
[ SQRT (x + 5 ) - 2 ]^2 = ( x - 3 ) ^2 after squaring them you get
x + 5 - 4 SQRT ( X + 5 ) + 4 = X - 3 rearrange the equation by isolating the square root in left side and the rest in the right side you get
- 4 SQRT (X + 5 ) = -12 divide both sides by - 4
SQRT ( x + 5 ) = 3 square both sides again you get
x +5 = 9 simply solve this problem you get
x = 4
hope that helped
( BTW SQRT means square root of )

â(x + 5) - 2 = â(x - 3)
(â(x + 5) - 2)² = â(x - 3)²
x + 5 - 4â(x + 5) + 4 = x - 3
9 - 4â(x + 5) = -3
â(x + 5) = 3
â(x + 5)² = 3²
x + 5 = 9
x = 4
