What the best PC back-up software out there? i looked at norton ghost but its not quite automated.?

Im aware that some backup software programs may only work with the exact same computer or similar motherboards? i need something that not only backs up documents, but the registry, settings such as outlook, word etc. Any ideas with what works well?

I'm a big fan of Acronis True Image. I backup to a 1 TB Passport drive. The biggest advantage I see is the rescue disk. If your HD dies you can put in a new HD, formatted or not, boot from the rescue disk and then restore from your last backup to the new HD. You can be back up in much less than an hour with all your programs and data as of the date of your last backup. A couple of months ago I had a serious malware or virus infestation. My restore points were useless and I was unable to clean the system with the standard tools. Acronis saved my butt.

    You can automate your backups.

I have tried several cloud backup solutions over the last two years and ASIGRA solution is the most secure and stable cloud backup software. • If you're running Windows 7 there's a built in back up utility in the 'maintenance' folder that's FREE.

You can set it to back up what ever you choose. And it creates a disk image.

Make sure you create recovery disks for the OS as part of your back up.

If you have more than 1 computer you can also synchronize folders with something like Dropbox or Windows Live Mesh as an additional layer against loosing your data. Also FREE

Hard drives will fail, its a matter of when, NOT if. Protect your data!

Norton ghost is NOT a backup software. It can be used as one in a round about way. Carbonite really works well, it is all backed up remotely and costs something like $50 a year. Really quite a deal. It really works, I've used it before, I lost over 1TB worth of photos when my hard-drive got lost on a flight and carbonite replaced them right away. Quite an amazing service they have.

for the money I would go with an online backup like carbonite. for about $50 a year your whole system is saved off site protecting you agains hard drive failure, theft and natural disasters.

EaseUS Todo Backup Free can do all that, plus create full disk images. See http://www.winhelp.us/index.php/configure-easeus-t... as an example.

My hard drive crashed and I lost all my family photos and precious data. Thankfully I had my computer backed up online with MyPCBackup and I was able to quickly recover everything.
