    xsquared-8x=-9

    xsquared-8x+16=7 note that the #where the 9 was is half of B and the square of it

    (x-4)squared=7

    x-4=plus or minus√7

    x=plus or minus√7+4

    confusing, but hope it helps

    Isolate the variables:

    x² - 8x = -9

    Add the square of half the linear coefficient to both sides:

    x² - 8x + (8/2)² = x² - 8x + 16 = 7 = -9 + 16

    Factor the left side:

    (x - 4)² = 7

    Solve from there, don't forget the ± when the square root is taken.
