What would you do if you were me?
Okay, so I'm currently a high school senior, and I am trying to make all of my plans for next year. I have gotten into all of the schools I applied to, and it's down to 2 schools right now.
One school is the one I've wanted to go to for years now. It has one of the top engineering programs in the nation (I'm majoring in mechanical engineering), great traditions, I love the campus, and it's competitive in just about every division I sport (I'm a big football fan).
The other school has a decent engineering program that is improving every year. It's sports are decent, at best. The campus is not that great, and it's like 30 minutes away from my parents, which is not exactly a good thing. I honestly wouldn't even be considering it, but they are offering a scholarship that will cover about two years of my education.
The first school asked us to send all of my scholarship offers, and in March they are supposed to make a "counter offer" of some sort.
My parents right now are pushing me to go to the school with the scholarship offer. I have to pay for half of my college, if not a little more, so the scholarship doesn't effect how much they pay at all. It's just me looking at about $30,000 of debt in student loans vs. none. I don't see why they are pushing me there.
Chances are, the first school will offer me some sort of scholarship, but if they don't what should I do? This scholarship is a lot of money to just say no to, but my heart has been set on the first one for as long as I could remember. Either way, I'm practically guaranteed a job right out of college with good pay.
Thanks in advance

I think that you should go with what you have been wanting to do for your whole life. Going to the better school will be more impressive to future employers and it will allow you to create better networks. In other words, even though it will be more expensive, you will have a better time and it will be more beneficial in the future.

At first glance, I would say go to school #1 which you seem to love since you'll get good pay right out of college. HOWEVER, you are taking a risk. What if engineering isn't your thing? You'll end up paying the price later with loans. The percent of people who change their majors is significant. My brother went into engineering and ended up switching to accounting. You just never know. That is the risk you take.
Good luck!
