need help on friendship !!?

Hi all, recently i just started my college and there is a foreign student from Iran.

He looks really nice but at the same time shy.

I wish to be friends with him but my dad said that we do not know what's in his mind.

His motive may be to come here and sell drug or maybe capture me to his country to be slave.

You know, news like that often appear in the newspaper.

Is my dad over thinking?
