What went wrong in the philippines?

after independence, it was doing good for 25+years..then came a dictator, now its just..the people are divided.

im filipino i can give you some of the problems things going on..

Politics

there is political dynastis, maybe from the chinese or tribe influences?

the father,son,daughter..grand child..etc, inherit the position to carry the "name" in politics(greed always come)..it creats clan rivalry..

Religion, brought by spain..Christians+muslim, they dont go along in the philippines.

also the church sometimes dictates the govt.

Education, recently k12 was implied..

english+tagalog is the medium, but there are 179+ dialects. there simply a language barrier among filipinos from the north to the south.

Health, people believe in superstition, a tree can cure you. sometimes they accompany it with religion..my god will heal me etc..especially in the provinces.

Culture, different tribes=Rivalry..there is still that tribe mentality. my___ is better than yours..

Media, teleserye, telenovelas(mini series) influence by spain= everyday there are shows with fighting, crying. news..the best why i can describe the reporter gives his own views. he is biased and dictates how he wants to report.similar to media in china..(manipulativ type of reporting)

also they like to have peasants..(maids)..there is inequality. the elite think there better, and the poor(they like to see them poor, like that). u can it it in the streets of manila, homeless street kids.etc. 99% people wont give S#!t. instead of helping(THEY DESERVE TO be Like that) etc..chinese influence?

what is your analysis?

Update:

it can be good, if u put your input=changes alongside. Thanks..

this is really almost too complex to get into here but, I will give the primary reasons as:

    1) Quasi-Feudalism: The country has been controlled for hundreds of years by the same families

    2) crab mentality amongst the average pinoy

    3) acceptance of corruption: If all pinoy truly demanded accountability from government and politicians things might actually improve

    4) bahala na: the unwillingness of the average pinoy to think long term causes the poor to stay poor.

    5) no real legal system: a system that operates via payoffs and cronyism doesnt accomplish anything.

    6) no consumer protection

    7) the catholic church. The catholic church held back the western world for over 1000 years and is still doing so in the Philippines

    8) atrocious system of public education

    9) a culture that embraces machismo and passion over logic and common sense

    10) false pride

It is all in the Filipino personality.

Virgilio Enriquez, the father of Filipino Psychology proposed that there is a theory that is really part of the Filipino culture. It is called the "Kapwa" Theory

The Kapwa theory has 3 basic components: Hiya, Utang na Loob and Pakikisama.

Hiya means shame or sense of propriety.

Utang na Loob: Norm of reciprocity. Filipinos are expected by their neighbors to return favors-—whether these were asked for or not—-when it is needed or wanted.

Pakikisama: This attitude is primarily guided by conformity with the majority.

The following is based on a paper (mini-research) me and my classmates made about Filipino politicians:

"Politicians do know what they’re doing in handling the money of the people. It is just that the politicians choose to use it in the wrong way. They do this to put themselves in a safe position where they can take advantage and be assured that more than half percentages of the benefit will be given to them. Politicians take things for granted when they say something to the public on what they are doing, they rarely do. They can be considered as corrupt as they don’t do their job very well. One of the answers says that Filipinos have the mentality “Politician is a total liar” which causes the people to generalize that all politicians are bad which is stereotyped. In the midst of crisis, people should try to think twice otherwise, the people will lose trust in the politicians. People are deceptively attracted by the words of the politicians but once they commit a mistake, the effect and impact of the deception and mistrust is doubled.

Some of the politicians (Most are greedy) are giving the people, the bad impression of the office they hold in a way that they are serving their purpose as politicians in a dishonest manner. Also, they should be the model in following the laws of the country. Many politicians are not competent and flexible enough to be resilient. It is also because whatever hardships they face, they will always blame it on other people then move on.

The people should stop criticizing and start helping them in a personal way. Being productive is a better road than being critical. Also, there are many factors, which can distort the perception of the Filipinos to the politicians, to be considered such as: bad experiences, gossiping and the trait of being too judgmental. Lastly, there is all talk but no action. The Filipinos criticize and judge the bad deeds of the politicians for them to be aware and for them to improve. Also, they must hear the voice of the people (Vox Populi) which may prompt them to improve for the better. Their problems shouldn’t distort their way of thinking and acting.

Pakikisama is needed because without the people to go with, there is no government, so they need to sama with them and it is very important to the community. Cooperation from every citizen is important because it is an important factor in the success of the country. It is practical, if the politicians try to communicate and empathize with people and they will see what the country really needs."

  • The first step to change is to admit the problem and determine a way to institute a change.

You have done the first step, but the hard part is educating your fellow citizens and enlisting them to help change.

After that, you need an active plan to actually perform with diligence and the aid of ambitious people who will not let their guard down for one minute until things here are rectified.

what went wrong? Filipinos are like silly children, and approach thier problems this way. for example, the problem with Marxist & Muslim terrorists is far bigger than the occasional extortion, bombing & kidnapping, it destabilizes the economy, drives out business investment, jobs & income, and is a main cause of poverty.

Filipinos are like silly children who think that spending more money on social programs for the poor, and allowing lawless terrorists and other criminals to operate with impunity is better than enforcing law and order with violence, if necessary. much like a 4 year old child thinks his opinions and views should count equal or above his parents, many immature Filipinos believe a moral equivalence between lawless terrorists & criminals vs. legitimate, elected, democratic leaders and their legitimate authority thru police, laws, military, etc.

if Filipinos were mature and serious people they would rid themselves of these problems, and take the hard, cold, steps necessary, including killing, jailing and displacing large numbers of traitors and quasi-supporters that aid the terrorists..

(that is what 'foriegners' would do, spain, US, japan, china, .... whomever)

filipinos are too forgiving about the wrong doings of others . In the Philippines, this saying applies to almost all pinoy, "time heals". So, what would one expect of a place where discipline and fear of the authority and law is absent?

Most would probably do the same thing, get out and take another cab. What would've been different is that most people would've discovered the taxi driver's stupidity much sooner than you did. Stupid driver + stupid passenger = wasted gas (driver) & farther destination (passenger).
