Good question! I remember the day he died. I was tiny and it was my first awareness of death. I knew his songs so I got that it was a loss. Grown women were crying or shaking their heads all over Lincoln Nebraska where I lived.
It depends on the mood I'm in which song I like best. Love the way he rocked Rave On, but he also knew how to handle a ballad. If you ever go to Lubbock, the Buddy Holly museum is well done, but local Holly fans prefer the beautiful and award winning WPA tile work at Lubbock High (where he went) and the stunning art deco angel in the graveyard where he is buried ( along with my inlaws).

I like the Paul Anka cover It Doesn't Matter Anymore, Not Fade Away, Rave On and for Valens I'll take Big Baby Blues, Ritchie's Blues, and Framed. If you are ever in Clear Lake Iowa stop at the memorial they have.

I liked all of the two albums thqt Buddy had out. "True Love Ways" was a special song for me, for quite awhile. It was "our song" between a special boy and myself. It was never played on the radio
back in '61 . It was on the reverse side of a very popular hit, that I've forgotten now.
RIchies' songs were pretty much all good. My favorite was "La Bamba" and put him at the top of
the record charts for awhile. Richie's full last name, was Valenzuela, and shortened to Valens by his
producer.

Hi John, good question. It was sad day indeed.
For me it has to be Buddy singing 'Raining In My Heart'.
And for Richie Valens... 'La Bamba'.
Thanks for the memories.
