The moon ring tonight?

Wondering if anyone else sees the enormous ring that's around the moon right now. With my neck craned I could hardly get the whole thing in my field of vision. Any thoughts on the cause? Any and all opinions please, no matter how illogical you think they are.

    Ice crystals (or cirrus clouds -- same thing) produces a ring around the sun or moon about 45 degrees in diameter. You can read all about it by searching for Lunar Halo.

    It is called a lunar halo. It happens all the time when there are clouds at nighttime.

    That is an optics phenomena of ice crystals in the upper atmosphere scattering the moon light.
