Please comment on the intro to this essay: What is most important to you?
SO to start of the semester in English, my teacher wants us to write an essay about what is important to us just to see where we're at and the get a feeling for who we are. I was wondering if you could please comment on my intro just so i can get some feedback of whether or not i seem to be on a good track. Please no unnecessarily rude comments, but don't be afraid to tell me if you don't like it. If you don't just say why! I'm not changing my blueprint. :)
Here it is:
A variety of people in the world today struggle with the question which no man has ever really been able to give a generalized and truly accurate answer to for all people: Why were we even put on this planet and given life if we are all going to die anyway? One may come about this dilemma when the years start to slip by unnoticed, leaving only that dreadful feeling of “too much to do, and not enough time to do it in”. Or perhaps a loss, be it of innocence, love, or any other matter of importance has taken hold of one’s being, and has put his/her whole grasp of a purpose into new light, turning life upside-down and shaking violently until one may not even remember why he/she was here in the first place. The concepts of purpose and importance in one’s life certainly go hand in hand. As each aspect of one’s life most likely has some sort of purpose, the importance of those purposes then go on to become the drive for what one will live life by. The tricky thing is, one purpose cannot be generalized for all people since all people find different aspects of life important. In a life such as my own however, the sport of hockey, education and learning, and relationships with family and friends are the most important aspects, and serve to be where a purpose in life is derived from.
I REALLY wasn't trying to make this into a "Creationism vs. evolution" thing because frankly, if I made it scientific (since those are my beliefs) i really wouldnt be able to say I live for something because its true we only live to reproduce haha. Thank you though, both these answers are helpful!
oh yeah, and for the "life slipping away" thing, i was sort of going for that mid-life crisis feel, since i realize older people seem to learn to accept death.

I would tighten up the language and not try to pad it with extra words. Your first sentence could be something like: "Many people in the world today struggle with a question that has plagued humanity since the beginning of time: Why are we here?"
I like the content of what you're saying but the way you are saying it sounds a little too formal - try reading it out loud and I think you'll see what I mean.

I understand what you're saying; however, . . .
(1) We weren't 'put on this planet.' Life evolved.
(2) Given (1), the answer to your question is that the purpose of all life is to reproduce. That's it. Nothing supernatural; nothing spiritual; nothing high falutin'.
(3) I'm an older fella, and your statement about 'that dreadful feeling of "too much to do and not enough time to do it in" doesn't fit me or anyone I know of my age. As we age, the exact opposite happens. The inevatibility of death and its relative closeness becomes acceptible, even comforting.
But, I'll accept your viewpoint. I feel your writing does reflect this aspect of who you are--a mature one, too, to boot.
In general, too many words, and, I know it's a gray area in English grammar, but I changed any sentences that ended with prepositions. Some English teachers accept such constructs, but it's always correct not to do so. I also approached ending sentences with a double-quote from the American grammatical viewpoint rather than that used elsewhere in the English-speaking and -writing world. That is, you end a sentence with ." rather than with ". If you're not American, then change it back.
Many people struggle with the question which no one has ever been able to answer for all of Mankind: Why were we put on this planet if we are ultimately going to die? One may come about this dilemma when the years start to slip by unnoticed, leaving only that dreadful feeling of “too much to do and not enough time in which to do it.” Or perhaps a loss, be it of innocence, love, or any other matter of importance, has taken hold of one’s being and has put one's whole grasp of a purpose into a new light, turning life upside-down and shaking violently until one may not even remember why one is here in the first place.
The concepts of purpose and importance in one’s life certainly go hand in hand. As each aspect of one’s life most likely has some purpose, no matter how minor, the importance of those purposes then become the drive by which one will live one's life. The tricky thing is this: One purpose cannot be generalized for all people, since all people find different aspects of life important. In a life such as my own, however, my relationships with my family and friends, education, and hockey are the most important aspects and serve to be from where I derive my purpose.

i have rewritten this. (i'm hoping you do not thoughts.) It became only too reality-heavy. you want to maintain data to apply as data to help your topic sentences. In Hiroshima, John Berger asserts that united statesa. acted in a terrorist like thanks to end international conflict II with the atomic bombs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. in accordance to Berger, “what's able to wonder human beings about terrorists’ acts is they frequently objective the unselected and innocuous” (329). Martin Luther King might want to judge the bombing an act of injustice yet might want to ultimately deem it mandatory. each topic sentence can be a reason that King might want to judge it mandatory.

What is life all about? What is the most important thing to do in this life?
To find your purpose in life and the truth of things for yourself. Relying on the word of others is always nice when you are young and vulnerable but their comes a time in life when you must find out what you believe in for yourself.
I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, (nickname - Mormons). It took me time and effort to find out for sure that what I had been taught as a child is what I truly believe to be true, but through prayer and study I have found out for myself.
It gives me direction and purpose in life. I know that if I have questions or concerns that I can go to the one who knows all truth, God and receive answers through prayer.
You, are young and need to find out your direction in life for yourself. Those in society will tell you that the most important things in life is to earn allot of money, to have prestige and success in your career, to be handsome and talented and witty, but in truth in the end we all die and what is most important is not the title we hold but who we really are because that is all that carry on with us after this life.
To me the most important things to base your life around are based around these questions:
Who am I an why am I alive?
If there is a God, what is my relationship to him and what is life for?
What happens to me once I die? What is important for me to accomplish in this life?
Once you answer these questions then you will be a fierce individualist but in the right way going for the right goal.
As I said before I feel that I have found the answers to those questions through my religion. If you are interested in finding out more about it you can go to this site and it will help: mormon.org
Good luck, and remember that it is good to be an individual but don't lose sight of the fact that:
25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Matthew 16:25-26
