A mild acid left on for a short period of time might be worth trying on a small area that is not obvious to the eye for a test. WD 40 sprayed on prior the getting it muddy will wash down leaving the metal clean but that is done before the mud gets to the bike. There's this stuff I've used called Oil Eater. It comes in a big white jug that says Oil Eater on it. It has worked on everything, It's like Windex times 1000, it's great stuff. Not sure where to buy it though, try Home Depot. Hope it helps, if you can find some.
