Military on base housing application?
I'm applying for on base housing. My husband is an active duty Marine, and currently deployed. I have a special power of attorney to set everything up, but I'm a bit confused what to fill out.
His duty (DSN), I heard it's a number they can reach him at... Well typically it would be his cell phone number, but he's deployed and his phone is turned off. Do I still put his cell phone number in that area? If not, what number do I put in it?
Instillation transferred from and to... He's only had one duty station, and we are going to move on base to his current duty station once he gets back from his deployment. He wasn't transferred anywhere, so what do I put in that area?
Another question, it has a bunch of questions about community housing and what we need, like purchase a home, rent a home, rent mobile home, rent a room, all these crazy questions. I don't want to live off base, or rent a house off base, I just want typical on base housing. Would I check rent home? Do I check anything in that question at all? Since it says community housing, is on base housing "community" or does community mean off base?
They have a section with what we want in the house like air and unfurnished and such, do I just fill out that section so they know what on base house would Suite me best? I just want to make sure I can take my two dogs, (One small dog one large dog.) have air conditioning, unfurnished and live on base.
I already tried calling the front desk to ask them these questions, but every time I call it's just a busy tone....

Put his phone number in the area. They aren't going to contact him if they know he cant. Leave block 12 (installation transferred from) blank. You dont need to worry about filling out anything u don't know b/c the housing rep who will be helping you will fill in the blanks. Check rent home. Im assuming youre using dd form 1746 and you're making it far too complicated than it needs to be. All base housing is unfurnished. Check the pets block and in the remarks section put your 2 dogs and their breeds. What base are u going to? Maybe I can help. I am working in the Housing Office of NAS Whidbey Island as I type this.

I always lived 45 min to an hour away from the base for those same reasons. Housing in town was expensive and the onbase housing wait was too long. The 4 months was just an estimate. As the others have said at least you have a home for now so be gratefull. Going up the COC will do nothing to solve the problem. There are a limted number of 4/5 br places availible and until someone moves out you can't get moved up on the list. So either sit tight and wait or go 45 min to an hour away from the base to where housing prices are more reasonable. As the other person said, we won't evan get into the irresponsibility of having 5 kids on a junior enlisted mans pay.
