Physics general questions understanding?

1)) Discuss how you would estimate the number of hours you have spent in school thus far in your life. Then make the estimate.

2)) What are the merits and drawbacks of using a person's foot as a standard? Discuss in terms of ease of comparison, invariability, indestructibility, and reproduceability.

(a) Consider a system using a particular person's foot.

(b) Consider a system using any person's foot.

    (1) Multiply length of school day in hours

    times 5 days per week

    times number of weeks per school year (36?)

    times number of years you've been going to school

    (a) Using a particular person's foot is poor for "indestructibility" -

    his foot can be smashed.

    Not great for "invariability," as even adults' feet grow slightly as they age.

    "Reproduceability" - once you start to reproduce objects that were

    measured to replicate the length of that person's foot, you have already

    solved some of the problems associated with using a person's foot.

    Or are they talking about reproducing results of measurement?-in that case,

    I fail to see how it differs from "invariability."

    "Ease of comparison" - poor. You may not have access to that person.

    (b) "Any person's foot" - ease of comparison just fine. Use your own foot!

    Invariability - forget it! You are using everyone's different-sized feet.

    Indestructibility - not too much of a problem, since there's always

    some other person's foot.

    Reproduceability - not a problem, but not a solution in the way that it was

    when only one person's foot was involved.
