I don't watch TLC *gag*. But those strange addictions or compulsions are the same as people addicted to drugs and alcohol. There's a reason why it's hard for people to stay clean long after the substances are no longer in their system, it's a compulsion that happens in the mind. Addiction is classified as a disease because the people who tend to be vulnerable to it obsess on things.
