Do you find 'Skating Parents' annoying?
To clarify, do you find "Skating Parents" - aka the parents who stand at the boards and order their children around when they have no skating experience and no idea what they're talking about - annoying and/or disrespectful? Just curious to see if other people feel the same way as me. Personally, I don't think the parents have a place in meddling with the on-ice stuff, especially if they know nothing about skating.
The motivation behind this question - If anyone cares or is curious - is this: I was skating this afternoon at a Club that I don't belong to. There was just me, my partner, my mum, his mum, and this one little kid on the ice. The little girl's dad was playing her program music over and over again, and was yelling at her that she had to do her axel properly. The poor kid was barely doing waltz jumps, let alone axels. Not to mention that these parents repeatedly screamed at my partner and I to get out of the girl's way, even when we were doing pattern stuff. I have also seen parents at my club screaming and banging on the glass because they think their kids aren't doing things correctly. One mother actually got banned from the skating area because of that.
BQ. What is one thing you dislike about figure skating?
BQ.2. If you could learn and perfect one skill, and this one skill wouldn't contribute to anything else (eg. if you pick triple axel, it doesn't mean you can land a double or single axel. Yeah, kind of stupid to say that, but I don't like when people pick quad axel because then they would be able to do every single jump), which one would you pick?
That is all :) Happy Skating!
@Figureskater716, thank you :) it's from last weekend's competition. Here's the full pic, for anyone who's interested: http://www.imagebam.com/image/845210173801536
Oh, and the guy with the glasses in the background is Donald Jackson (Former Figure Skating world Champion and the Jackson Skates person :) )

I don't think what that little girl's dad was doing is right. That's expecting too much out of her and that's disrupting other skaters. From what I read, I find him a little rude. However, I'm here to tell you that not all skating moms are like the ones at your rink.
My mom has taught me far better than any other coach that I've had. She can barely walk on ice but she has taught me so well that I've passed Senior moves and landed my double axel. You might not find that too impressive, but I do live in a area where the skating program isn't strong. Yes, coaches have tried to get her to stop teaching me, but they've all failed in their attempts. She doesn't usually scream at other people, we pretty much keep to ourselves.
BQ) Hmm...I would definitely say that I dislike it when people occupy the lutz corner and either just stand there, skate really slowly, or skate around in circles there. Also, it annoys me that if your jump gets downgraded your GOE goes down even though (for example) a underroated double axel is way more difficult than a fully rotated single axel, but you get less for the double axel attempt.
BQ 2) I think it would be awesome to land a triple lutz, I know that it doesn't contribute to anything else but lutzes are my worst favorite jump xD
happy skating to you too! :)

Surprisingly, I have no "skating parents" at my rink. It might be uncommon, but it's nice to see. All the parents I've seen are very encouraging. Some do mention things like "pull in tighter", "skate faster", "keep your head up", etc. but then again it's kind of something you should automatically do (but I occasionally forget xD) so it's like a gentle reminder and reinforcement of your coach's instructions. I think there's this one other skater that my coach teaches whose mom is kind of unreasonable- "My daughter can skate on Mondays and Fridays. What time can you come in?" whereas my coach teaches on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Most definitely she will not come in for one skater (she teaches at another club.)
BQ. The cost. Lessons, ice time, skates, etc. All of it, put together, costs a ton. My dad is always saying it's okay every time I mention it though, so I feel a bit better about it. Otherwise, it's the injuries. More bruises than you can count, the pulled muscles, and everything else that happened or will happen. Ugh. :3
BQ. 2. Probably an Ina Bauer- I have terrible hip turnout. Any kind of spin variation would be awesome too (like a pearl spin), since I can only do the basic positions without falling. For jumps, probably an axel. I hope I can at least land it off-ice soon (missing 1/4 rotation). Oh, and cool footwork.

Absolutely. I can't stand it when parents feel the need to meddle so much, especially when their poor child is obviously suffering for it.
I know a girl who told me her mum says that if she doesn't make it to the Olympics, she has to pay her back for all the money she's spent on skating. The stupid thing - this girl started skating when she was 12, and is now 13 and is working on her single axel. Not to sound harsh, but no way is she going to the Olympics, and her mother is being ridiculous.
Pushy parents should just leave the skating to their kid and the coach, and stop trying to interfere. When they're supportive and helpful - great. At my rink, there aren't too many crazy skating parents, but last week I skated at a rink in another state and it was just insane - they were everywhere. *shudder*
BQ: The cost. If skating wasn't so expensive, I'd be able to practise a lot more and wouldn't have to feel so guilty about all the money my family and I spend on it. But I suppose it's worth it! And I don't like how tired it makes me, and the early mornings, and the injuries and pulled muscles...basically, to sum all that up in one word, I dislike the pain.
BQ2: I'd love to be able to do a pearl spin - they look absolutely amazing. I'll probably never be able to do one though. I can't imagine my poor back ever bending that way, eek! Or a triple axel, of course, (or ehh, I'd even settle for a double!) because...well...do I really need to justify how incredible triple axels are? And because I love single axels, I imagine 3As would be even more fun.

Skating parents aren't horrible at my rink but we do have some rude girls! Some of the teen skaters work at the rink by being assistant coaches for learn 2 skate lessons. Well my friend wanted to take one learn 2 skate lesson (because she thought it was cool that I skate) and the teen coach and the adult coach (an ACTUAL certified coach) were gossiping about my friend. The actual coach honestly said right in front of my friend "good luck teaching _____this move" to the teen coach! UGH I hate when people are mean to my friends, I can't stand it! Good thing my coach is super nice and way better than that awful coach...
After reading some of the other answers on your question I am so shocked! Most of the drama at my rink is just girls being catty. Lucky for me I don't get involved with the catty girls. What really made me mad was the comment about the parents snickering because the girl was nervous for the competition. No parent who has never ice skated knows about the difficulties and how nervous a skater can get.
I do believe that it is good for parents to be involved and encouraging, but they need to make sure the skater is happy and actually WANT to skate.
One thing that I do not like is the cost. I am going to try and get a job to pay for more lessons. My parents pay for what I have now but I want more ice time and we can't pay for it because my sister also ice skates.
I wish that I could do fabulous loop jumps, spins, or axels but one simple element that I still have issues with is the backspin! I know! I can get a few revs but they are slow and I never get very many revolutions. My backspin is getting better but I still don't understand how girls can do a perfect, fast scratch back scratch.

Oh my goodness. YES! But fortuantaly we don't have a ton just drama..and lots of it. I don't think i've ever been to a day of skating at this rink without drama.
One of my friends mom will always be like "that was terrible! Your whirling around. Do a lutz like hers(mine) or axel. Yours looks weird". But I kinda feel bad.
My "friends" mom sits in the stands and then yells at her saying she isn't listening to her coach, and tells her what she's doing wrong (but the odd thing is normally her moms right but she won't listen).
@figureskater719: CD HOGS OMGG!!! During the Christmas season on a club session I heard Rudolph the Red-Nosed reindeer 9 times IN A ROW! And the only reason it stopped was because somebody played their program. I hate how coaches can jump you in line. I waited 15 minutes once and got jumped so much the line was too long to finish in the 10 minutes left so I didn't get to do my program. Grrrr. lol
BQ1: Deffinatly the cost. My family sacrifices a lot for me to skate and I always feel so bad. It causes a lot of arguments of whose paying for what (such as contract ice). (by the way my parents are divorced so yeah).
BQ2; A spiral/ flexibility. My spiral sucks so bad! It seems no matter how much I work on it, it just doesn't improve. :( I'm not sure if this counts or not but I would also pick speed. I'm a slow poke and i'm working super hard to change that! Also I would pick animated/ like choreo and being more into it and DEFFINATLY smiling while I skate. Sorry I couldn't narrow it down lol.

Some parents are idiots. You can complain to the rink if you like; maybe they can do something about the side-board coaching. But if they can't, you'll just have to deal with it. Yes it's annoying, but if you can shut it out of your head, it shouldn't bother you. It's not your problem, unless the parents are trying to tell you how to skate as well. We had one mother at my club get banned from the rink because she was constantly banging on the glass. Other parents and skaters complained, and they did something about it. It's worth mentioning to your coach or the head coach, but really, there's not a whole lot you can do about it.

Discover now the best sport betting system: http://sport-betting-tips.checkhere.info/
Too many people think of sports betting as just something they do in their past time. However, many people can see the potential that exists if you manage to have the right sports betting strategy and correct approach to betting in general. Are you sick of losing? Interested in finding out how to turn your luck around? Do you want to know which sports betting strategies stand to help you make the most from your betting?
Any good strategy should allow you to place bets based on a systematic method. Of course there is always a random element or so called luck involved, but betting is all about stacking the odds in your favor. There should be no guess work involved or bets placed based on gut feelings. Betting is a business and it should be treated like one. Any money you use for betting needs to be separate from money you use for your daily life or anything else. How can you possibly expect to follow a strategy with money that was originally set aside to pay next week's rent with? You can't. This will help you to focus on the task of betting and remove any emotional strings attached to the money.
So what makes a good strategy or what should you look for in a strategy before you decide to implement it? Any good strategy needs to have a positive expectancy. This means that in the long run you will win. The hit rate of the strategy needs to be above 50% for you to be able to profit in the long run. An ideal win rate should be between 60 to 70%, because you will need to cover the fees and other expensive associated with betting. Is it feasible to expect you'll be able to find a system that has a 100% win rate? No, it isn't. The best you can do is find a system that has a positive expectancy and stick with it. In the long run you will make more money than you can possibly lose.
Keep whatever information and news you have about the teams as up to date as possible. Any changes in the teams makeup or factors that affect how the players play will great affect the potential outcome of a match. Make sure that you are constantly up to date on every aspect that affects the potential outcome of a match. Information is the key to winning at sports betting.

There used to be a really bad skating mum at my rink who would come in with her doona and scream at her daughters for a few hours telling them they were doing everything wrong, we would just watch in shock and I know if it was me I would tell her to come out and do all those doubles.
There are other skating parents at our rink who order their kids around and demand stuff, but that woman was the worst I've seen.
I know some skaters annoy me and my coach at my rink and when I'm in a lesson, even with my music on they always think they have right of way, frustrates my coach every time.
BQ. I also dislike the cost, takes up so much money, but I do love it. Once I finish school bills will be less expensive so luckily I will have more money for skating :)
BQ.2. I would love to be able to do a pearl spin or a yu-na camel, that would be amazing, but I don't like my chances

Yes, OMG. There was one time that it was just me and my friend Elaine on the ice. She was working on her double loop and kept falling. Her mom, who has had NO skating experience kept giving her corrections. I even overheard Elaine say, "That last one really hurt, can I stop?" And her mom made her keep going.
Then there are the crazy ones who ask coaches who are currently teaching to put on their 9 year old's music. It's like, this is my time with this coach, have her put her own music on and run onto the ice like the rest of us.
Lifetime is actually making a new series called Ice Moms about the crazy parents. So excited.
BQ: Constantly being hurt
BQ.2: I'd love to have my Biellmann spin or my double axel.
