Why does NBA players keep spraining their ankles?

I think it's because of the lack of support in the shoes. Nobody wears true high tops anymore. I know when I wore them I never sprained my ankles, but as soon as I wore low tops it became inevitable.

Update:

A shorter season has nothing to do with injuries. It's the shoes. And taping the ankles is all mental - just ask the professionals. There is a serious need for true high top shoes. For those who remember, Dr. J rarely if ever sprained his ankle. Why is that? Think about it.

Simple, 66 games, 120 something days, that's some serious wear, and tear.

High-tops, low-tops, doesn't really matter that much, since all of 'em have a lot of tape, so they're effectively all still wearing high-tops.
