Why do so many parents put their kid's child seats on the street side?

I almost hit a father and his infant when the father was taking out his kid on the street side. Where's the preparation for safety?

In general people are stupid and don't give any thought to what they are doing. Since its not a law they don't think it matters. That's why we have so many stupid laws, to protect stupid people from themselves and others. IMO

there was a case here where an intoxicated grandma left a kid in a car seat at the intersection of a freeway exit ramp and one of the busiest streets there is the kid sat there for about 15 min before anyone found it

If you are driving defensively, giving room, and paying attention, there should have been no way you could have 'almost hit' them unless you are prone to hyperbole.

I've got two kids, one sits on the right, the other the left. Am I supposed to buy a huge people carrier for two kids?

Maybe because if you hit the car, it will be by the street side, but the kid is at the other side, so the kid will suffer minimum damage.
