Are there different Netflix packages or something? (Read more)...?

A family member of mine had signed up for Netflix a couple months ago. During recent visits we've been watching different movies and TV shows, and now I want to sign up. However, I notice they really don't have a large selection like they say. If I look at the website it says they have tens of thousands of movies. I tried searching for the Harry Potter movies and the Twilight movies, and it says they have them. But when I'm at my relatives and I search for these movies, they don't have them...

What's this about???

I understand the first month is free when you sign up, then it says $7.99 a month after that. Is there an upgraded package or something? Or why can I not find any of these movies when my relative is logged into their account? Literally, there's thousands of movies they claim to have on the website that are missing when they're actually using Netflix.

Update:

* I do live in the U.S. ;)

First of all Netflix does have thousands of movies. However they have some movies that are only for online streaming that you can watch online and there are movies that are DVDs only. For Harry Potter and Twilight series it is not available for streaming online and only available on DVDs only here in the United States.

Here are the month plans for Netflix. The first month is free. After that they will charge you according to the plan you selected.

$7.99 a month gives you unlimited streaming movies online or unlimited DVDs (1 at a time)

$15.98 a month gives you unlimited streaming movies online and including unlimited DVDs (1 at a time).

So it depends on your plan that you want. If you get the 7.99 a month for unlimited streaming movies online then you won't see Harry Potter or Twilight since it is only available on DVD only.

If you get the 7.99 a month plan for unlimited DVD (1 at a time) then you can request any movie you want on DVD, but you wan't get the unlimited movies streaming online.

    Different Netflix Plans

Netflix has several different subscription levels.

Their cheapest one only allows streaming. However not all of the movies in Netflix's library are available for streaming. This is because the rights to rent DVDs is different from the rights needed to stream.

The other subscription levels also include streaming, but allow you to have 1 or more DVDs sent to your house. For instance, I don't think the Harry Potter movies are available for streaming but they are on DVD. Netflix also carries blu-ray as well. Activating the blu-ray option on an account costs an extra $1 per DVD. So if you have the 2-at-a-time subscription and want the option of getting blu-ray discs, then you'll pay $2/month more. Keep in mind that blu-ray discs only play in DVD players. DVDs meanwhile, can play in blu-ray and DVD players.

I am American, and I just signed up for Netflix after not having it for about 3 yrs and the selection seems to be very small compared to when I had it previously. Has the selection changed over the last 3 yrs? The selection has either gotten really terrible or something has changed.

You probably live in Canada. Us Canadians don't have as many movies as the American netflix eh? If you live in America then I don't have an answer for you.

The only packages I know of is streaming or DVD, or the number of DVDs or concurrent streams you can have at once.

Within streaming or DVD, you have the same selection regardless of package choice.

    That is my understanding anyways.
