a sentence that doesn't contain all of the necessary parts of speech to be a complete sentence.

Ex: was running down the street.( missing subject at beginning of sentence.)

Correct way: The man was was running down the street.

A helpful hint is if it doesn't sound right when you say it look to see if it is missing anything.

A sentence fragment is simply an incomplete sentence. It can be a sentence missing a main subject or main verb, or it can be a disjointed dependent clause.

    Example: This not sentence.

A sentence without both a subject and predicate(where the verb is). A sentence fragment basically has one or the other.

    Exs:

    Subject only:

    The cat.

    Predicate only:

    Walks many miles.

Let's go answer questions on YA! (complete sentence)

What a wonderful idea! (sentence fragment) In conversation it would be acceptable because the listener can fill in the implied words. What a wonderful idea that is!
