"Any" sort of means is there something there. An example of this is "Are there any girls in your history class?" as an example. The person asking the question is wanting to know if there are girls in the class and they do this by asking if there are "any".
"Some" is similar but it relates more to the amount of the subject of the question. If you use sweets as an example, a person asking "would you like some sweets?" is asking a person if they would like an indefinite amount of sweets.
Hope I helped. :) x
