I have recently moved to Dearborn (West side), right before my 24th birthday. I enjoy living in the area. There is a large Middle Eastern Population, especially on the Eastern side of Dearborn. However, there is a large variety of people (which in my opinion is the spice of life!) and as a non Middle Eastern individual I do not feel like a minority in my area of Dearborn. Depending on which area of Dearborn you live in you will find different environments depending on your desires. There is reasonable housing for rent but it is somewhat more expensive than what one would think considering how cheap it is to buy here. There is plenty to do in the area especially if you are willing to explore neighboring communities and Detroit. When you turn 21 there is a surprising amount of nightlife Friday and Saturdays in West Dearborn on Michigan avenue. There is a community center which though I have not explored I believe offers a lot of activities for a reasonable membership fee, nice libraries, access to lots of shopping, and nice neighbors in my experience.

I will not lie the economy here is rougher than some areas. However, I have found that if you are determined and after you get a college degree there good area jobs available. A strong resume put out on the internet and actively applying will lead to success. Even before you graduate I am sure you could find something.

Of course there are problems but overall, I recommend it. Do not let people scare you away from moving here. Everyone told me I was crazy for moving but I do not regret it. Everyone who visits comments on how wrong they had been and how much nicer and more interesting it is than they believed.

Source(s): Moved here myself in the last 9 months.

I dont know, depends on the apartment, but id say yes. some houses are cheap or apartments with the economy. there are many good jobs if you look, but youlll have to look real hard. there are many plcaes looking to hire. but the economy has been better and many parts are clean and safe, but watch out for the detroit border

    Interesting Tidbit:

Its actually very diverse, but the economy has been better. But its not sharia law, but like other communities, acomadations are made because tis is a great democratic nation. the eastern and southern portions have arab ethnic restaurants, and the west is mainly european. most arabs are lebanese, and iraqi and yemeni, most whites are historically german or polish, not that you asked for racial makeup.

    btw-its detroit metro

it's like living in iraq, some call it 'dearbornistan' and apart from the immigrant population, it's like a bomb hit since the auto plant jobs have gone away
