organizations such as hospitals and universities to provide free birth control to all their employees when that is going against Catholic teaching.? And if they don't do it they will be fined?

That is the government forcing its doctrine on religion. THAT is what the First Amendment is about.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

The government is unconstitutional when it attempts to force any religious establishment to do anything.

There are 28 states which already mandate birth control be included for all, even religious companies. 8 of those states even include the church's in their law.

All Obama wants is for all companies to include covering birth control for their female employees. He agrees that churches be exempt from this, but hospitals and other companies which the church may have should as they are receiving public money and some of their employees do not belong to that particular religion.

Obama, exempts the Catholic church from having insurance with contraception which makes those 8 states which include that unconstitutional.

And there a tons of Catholic Universities that already cover contraceptives in their insurances for their students.

This contraception thing is only controversial now because the conservatives are trying to find anything to bring up against Obama. Even things which a few years ago, those same conservatives were for this.

Since contraceptives are generally considered to be a means to prevent fertilization of the egg in a female, should not the men be offered free condoms that basically do the same thing. And if so, should the condoms be offered in different colors and sizes as well as the real fancy ones with ridges and knobs on them.

I do not understand the reasoning behind leaving men out of the equation in the first place since in most cases men play a direct role in egg fertilization. The exceptions being sperm banks, fetus implants etc.,and of course the occasional miracle or virgin birth.

The Catholic organizations hire non-Catholics. Many Catholic organizations already operate in states that require employers to provide birth control with or without a copay, and do so.

Most Catholic women use some form of birth control already. If the health plan pays for erectile disfunction, it should pay for birth control.

This is not exactly anything new. There are already 28 states that mandate that insurance companies include birth control whether the company is religion-based or not and the courts in some of those states have already affirmed that the state has the right to mandate this against catholic organizations.

Are catholics unable to live in a democracy?

Are catholic doctors unable to obey the hippocratic oath?

Are nursing staff so biased against others who dare believe in something different to themselves?

Get real - these people are not fit to treat people and should not be working in the caring professions!

bigotry and religious bias should have no place in the health care system!

When they are employed where it is required to dispense birth control and refuse then they are surely committing the criminal offense of fraud? What is more if their duty is to provide it and they refuse and a woman gets pregnant then surely that person can be sued in court to pay for the abortion or child maintenance?!

Are catholics really unable to live in a democracy?!

    Absolutely he is wrong.

These are private religious organizations, not public. They should not be required to carry anything they don't want to carry. Their employment agreement should be between them and their employees, the government has no business getting involved.

This crosses the line of the separation of church and state horribly.

It really doesn't matter what one's perspective is on birth control in this case... it doesn't trump the Bill of Rights which gives us the right to freedom of religion.

This would be the equivalent of a Christian president requiring all public schools provide free Bibles to all their students who want it.

    Also forcing abortion.

The 600 plus Catholic hospitals will shutter their doors and go out of business overnight before killing one baby.

Obama was facing a hard election fight. Now he is totally screwed. Pissing on the Constitution is not smart.

Of course it is wrong and a basic violation of the principle of separation of Church and State.

The First Amendments states" "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

Clearly a law which directs a religious institution that they MUST do something which violates their religion it totally unconstitutional. Just the mere fact that this guy brought it up is a clear indication that he is unfit to be President. It is a continuation of the anti-Catholic bigotry that has hounded this nation from its beginning.

No matter what religion or lack thereof, if someone is in favor of the First Amendment, they should be opposed to this.

  • I think it's wrong that my fellow Catholics are causing such a fuss over it.

Just do like the Fundies and call everyone who uses birth control a false Catholic or something.

Life is too short for this crap.
