Is Representative Democracy a failed concept?
I personally see that our political process is an utter failure. On one hand we saw elective/representive democracy as a better alternative to monarchy.
We wanted to ensure the freedom of the majority and the minority.
How can any elected official ever truly represent the needs or wants of the individual?
It may have been logistically possible, back when it was 1 representitive per 100-1000 people, but 1 person representing millions is just not responsible or wise or ethical.
I just want to know, do you feel electing people, works or if it is a failed concept?
I am simply asking if you, you can vote someone in, and feel they will 80% at least stand by why you voted them in?

The USA is a Republic, not a Democracy. The fact is the constitution has been slowly eroded to being meaningless.
The current administration has demonstrated very clearly and openly that the American people can and will be completely lied to, urged on, and led like lemmings to their own demise.
Republican and Democratic leaders have done this, openly for years, and many Americans have simply been fooled.
But even so, the American system can and will work if enough people are educated to the facts and what is actually going on. If this cannot be taught, then the USA as we all know and love will cease to exist.
If Americans re-elect the current President, and a Democrat Congress, then the system will be completely socialized, the Constitution scrapped, and a new age will begin.
The USA will become another European style society, exactly what your ancestors ran away from many years ago. However, Americans are NOT Europeans, and will NOT be able to sustain this type of society.

If you let it alone and just follow the document meant to rule it then yes it works, and no it is no where near a failed concept. This nation became the most powerful nation the Earth has ever seen through representative democracy. Only a fool would question that. You all thinking you know better is the problem.
For dumb asses: representative democracy = a constitutional republic.
Look up the dictionary on democracy and republic. They are the same thing.

The problem is the concept works until money starts pouring in. Lobbyists have been poisoning the process for decades and now it's gotten to the point where the people with money are starting to float the idea that only they should be allowed to participate in the election process because the poor will just be voting for a handout. And the idea is looking mighty palatable to the gullible
Never mind that the same people saying that are voting to give themselves a handout that's 300 times bigger

Representative Democracy is a not a failed concept. The problems are the party system and the money system.

it hasn't failed,we just have corrupt people in office, there was a safeguard built in,but then they eliminated death as a punishment for treason

Since it has been usurped by an overreaching federal government, one could make a good argument that it is.
